Rodrigo Cass’s practice develops from a rigorous formal vocabulary focused on structures, cuts, and discontinuities within the pictorial plane, unfolding into space through canvases, reliefs, and video. His work brings together materials such as concrete, fiberglass, and linen—often colored with tempera—in compositions where planar surfaces extend into volumetric propositions. Having lived and trained within the Carmelite order, Cass approaches abstraction as a means of investigating the spiritual dimensions of color and form, in dialogue with the visions and mysteries of the sacred. In his video works, projected onto sculptural supports, repetitive actions unfold with measured cadence, gradually introducing processes of metamorphosis in which materials shift states, accumulate, erode, or recombine. These sequences lend duration to his inquiry into form, allowing transformation itself to register as a physical and perceptual event.
