Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel opens a new space in São Paulo this November, in the heart of the Jardins neighborhood, expanding its presence within the city’s art circuit. A pioneer in the Barra Funda district—where the gallery has presented exhibitions for 17 years in a 1,500 m² industrial warehouse—it now unveils a more intimate venue. Located at the corner of Barão de Capanema and Ministro Rocha Azevedo streets, the new space will host exhibitions of an opposite yet complementary nature to those at the main gallery, engaging with the cultural rhythm of the neighborhood’s passersby.
The inaugural exhibition brings together, for the first time, small-format landscape paintings by Brazilian artist Luiz Zerbini and Antiguan artist Frank Walter (1926–2009). Both are masters in capturing atmosphere, and in these small works they translate vast scenic expanses into contained yet rapturous pictorial planes. The show sets the tone for the high artistic quality that will define the new gallery’s program. Its central location and carefully designed architecture offer a welcoming environment for dialogue between art, the city, and the public. The building marks Planta.Inc.’s first retrofit project in Jardins, designed by Metro Arquitetos.
“The new space continues the gallery’s trajectory, which began in Vila Madalena and later moved to Barra Funda, contributing to the development of both neighborhoods over the years. We are now bringing our energy to the vibrant cultural life of Jardins,” says Alexandre Gabriel, senior partner at Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel.
