About the fair

The presentation brings together a body of works that revolve around the idea of the “shell,” not only as an allusion to nature, but as a plastic and poetic concept. Two curved compositions suggest insect shells or stages of an ongoing metamorphosis. They point to the artist’s interest in fantasy, as it relates to the life cycles in transformation: planes of color that influence each other and play within the folds of the shell. In addition to these pieces, the exhibition includes compositions that fuse words, poems, drawing, and painting, some of which take on mobile aspects: works that move, spin, or unfold in space, expanding the dialogue between sculpture and space.

Pursuing transformation as both an existential and formal premise, Tadáskía’s works construct a universe of multiple references. Her world is one where enchantment, reality, and poetry give rise to both visual meanings and mystical suggestions. The artist has strong affinities with the history of the trans community, with Afro-diasporic and Afro-Brazilian ancestry, and with Afro-Indigenous narratives, which act as tributaries to a continuous existential study. The various developments in her practice share a common thread in their relationship to drawing. At once markings and erasures, her lines, made in dry pastel, spray paint, colored pencil, pen, or charcoal, form graphic entanglements that evoke floating beings without making them fully recognizable.
