⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Opened in November 2016 by Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, Carpintaria does not fit into a conventional definition of a branch. Instead, it broadens the scope of the group´s activities by making use of a dynamic and interdisciplinary programming. Its experimental vocation allows testing different models of exhibitions and promoting encounters of duos and trios of artists, without being limited to the so common solo shows in galleries. The dialogue with other languages is also explored, so that exhibitions are not necessarily restricted to the visual arts.

The project is part of the Vila Portugal complex, a cultural and gastronomic center located in the premises of Jockey Club of Rio de Janeiro, and it occupies the building where an old carpentry used to function – hence the name choice. The space was remodeled by Pedro Evora and Pedro Rivera, from Rua Arquitetos, with the concern of keeping its original features as conserved as possible. The only radical change was the elevation of the ceiling height, but the wooden A-frames and the original tiles have been kept. It is a large and versatile space, overlooking the racetrack and the city´s mountains.
